First Entry

I tried doing a blog before on myspace, but I revealed too much personal information and ended up deleting it. Now I think I'll try again, and instead of focusing on myself I'll focus on programming and school. So lets get to it!
I just got accepted in to the prestigious and exclusive University of Houston. I'll be going there in the fall to work on a Computer Science degree, which I've been neglecting for the past year. About ten months ago I dropped out of school to work for a software company full time (I'd gotten a summer internship with them and it was going so well that I didn't want to stop). It's surprising difficult to stop working once you've started... making serious money for the first time and working in a real professional environment, makes going back to school hard. That's why so many people never go back after they drop out. They just can't give up the money and the freedom.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, I was forced to go back to school. I quit my job at the software company, got a job at another one, and then was fired for conflict of interest (the two companies had a business relationship that conflicted with me switching between them). There were lots of hard feelings, and I couldn't get a job anywhere else after that (cause I have no degree, and relatively little on-paper experience), so I decided to go back to school. Those who can't do, learn!
Now I hope that I'll get my bachelor's in computer science from U of H, and maybe go on to a nicer (more prestigious) school for my graduate degree (if I choose to get one). A friend of mine got into MIT (congratulations), and that's left me feeling like a slacker. I was very happy with myself while I was working, especially when I got the second job (that ended so tragically), but now I've been unemployed and sitting around the house for over a month, and I'm ready to get on with life.
Next week I start a summer class at the community college. I hope that works out well. I'm committed to getting an A. When my bachelors is finished I want to have a good enough GPA to get into a good graduate school. Faculty recommendations should help with that, and I bet I can wrangle some of those if I can get involved with the faculty projects at U of H. I'm sure they could use a code-monkey for something.
